  Octane number is the most important quality index of automobile gasoline, it reflects a country’s refining industry level and vehicle design level, and anti-knock agent is an important means to improve octane number of automobile gasoline. The octane number and antiknock index of the National Standard Gb17930-20061 for unleaded gasoline are the main means to produce high grade gasoline.

  Species:

 Gasoline antiknock agents can be divided into different types according to their chemical property, the main common ones are: alcohols, ethers, metals, amines, lipids and compounds. According to the application characteristics can be divided into metal ash and organic ash-free type.

 Alcohol antiknock agents are seldom used in gasoline blending because of their poor miscibility with gasoline, high oxygen content and limited national standards;

Ether antiknock agents are widely used, MTBE (methyl tert-butyl ether) is the main representative, but due to high oxygen content and low calorific value, the blending amount in gasoline is usually not more than 10% . MTBE is produced in most refineries in China;

Tetraethyllead, Ferrocene, MMT (methylcyclopentadienyl manganese tricarbonyl) , or CMT are the most common types of metallic antiknock agents, causing cylinder wear, spark plug ignition poor, oxygen sensors and three-way catalytic converter poisoning and other serious failures, has been banned or restricted. The addition of tetraethyllead and Ferrocene is explicitly prohibited by the national standards, while the use of Manganese antiknock agents is strictly restricted (detection limit is less than 0.018 G/L) . Easy to see on the market is mainly manganese series antiknock agent, but also a small amount of Ferrocene antiknock agent. The MMT suppliers were primarily Ethyl Corporation;

Amine antiknock agents are more alkaline and prone to corrosion, and have less application in the market due to their high price, while Lipid antiknock agents have lower antiknock efficiency when used alone and are often used in combination as antiknock components.

The compound antiknock agent is a kind of compound antiknock agent, which is composed of different substances with high octane number to form a benign synergistic effect. The antiknock ability is weaker than metal antiknock, but it is stronger than other antiknock agents. The addition amount is not restricted and does not have negative effect on other quality indexes.
